How to Clean Bakery Trays

Cleanliness is key in the world of culinary arts. In order for a bakery to be successful, proper cleaning methods must be followed. Although silicone trays may have many benefits and conveniences, they can sometimes be challenging to clean. Here’s a quick guide on how to effectively clean your bakery trays in order to keep them in pristine condition.

A Hot Wash

Just like washing dishes, bakery trays require a good cleaning session immediately after use. However, this isn’t a typical dishwashing session. In order to truly remove food residue, extremely hot water and grease-cutting dish soap must be utilized. Fill the sink with hot water and dish soap and let the tray soak in the solution for a few minutes. After soaking, proceed to scrub the tray with a nonabrasive sponge to remove any lingering residue or stains. It’s highly recommended that gloves are worn during this process since the water temperature must remain hot. Once the tray is clean, make sure to dry it off completely before using it again.

Use Your Oven

If you think your bakery tray has very powerful stains, it’s recommended that you heat the tray prior to washing it. Preheat your oven to 177 °C (350 °F). Once the oven is heated, place the silicone tray into the oven for 10 minutes. This heating process is more intensive than the previous method, hence why the food stains and residue become much easier to clean. Since the tray will be much hotter, be extremely careful not to burn yourself. After removing the tray from the oven, apply some baking soda and begin scrubbing the dirty areas. After scrubbing with baking soda, apply grease-cutting soap and commence the washing process previously mentioned.
